FAMILY

Family

The bandwagon that never seizes to be a support,
A large heart that accommodates one’s flaws,
The tide that sways back and forth like that of an ocean,
Assurance of a lifetime.

The wave sweeping through one’s life as though an ocean,
The life of the party of an existence,
The one who never gives up on life,
The sound beat of one’s happiness.

Fire smoking through the pipe of my existence,
Banter in the trip of life,
Igi Leyin Ogba aye mi (The pillar of my life),
The trigger of anger, yet the extinguisher of it,

The fury fire in the ocean of life,
The water in the desert of life,
The soldiers marking my territory,
The strong tower that can never be shaken.

Unity is the watchword,
Loyalty is the mission,
Faithful is the vision,
Sacrificing is the flower adorning the neck.

Defending my honor in times of adversity,
They’re my home,
My unfailing care,
My strength.

Shelter of love,
Shield from attack,
The close entity pulling all the nerves in me together,
The packed cells closely knit together.

Clones I have in the game of life,
The closeness, the estrangement,
The love, trust, loyalty, faithfulness,
All this I find in FAMILY!

POWER OF RELEVANCE

Power of Relevance

When you are not heard,
It means you have not been speaking.
When you are not seen,
It means you have not been showing up.

When you are not needed,
It means you have not been helping.
Where you are not loved,
It means you have not been worthy.

God places you where you would be relevant.
You are where you are because you can be relevant.
You will not have been sent to your geographical location
If you did not have the capacity to be relevant in that location,
Which is why it is called your “sphere of influence.”

It is a sphere you can influence,
So if you are not influencing that sphere,
You are the problem.

A person who doesn’t bring light
To a place constitutes to the heat in the darkness,
Therefore, invariably making it less bearable, or “darker.”

Find ways to be relevant.
Find ways to stay relevant.
Dig up your talent.
Take charge.

THE WORLD OF MEN

The world of Men

Welcome to my world
Welcome to the world of men
Men who know not to be just
Men who think nothing of trust
Welcome to the world of odds.

A place where we celebrate the wrong
Where corruption is our song
And only the rich belong.
Here, we castigate transparency
Only to support barbarity.

Welcome to the world of irregularities
Welcome to the world of flaws
Where we think nothing of the law.
Here, every act is of cruelty
And we’re ruled by inequality.

It is a world of partiality
Filled with all absurdity
But amidst all abnormalities
There is at least one reality
With God alone, is impartiality.

THE POEM SHE WILL NEVER READ

The poem she will never read

To the little
Thoughts of you,
I cling on.

To the hope
Of your coming back,
I cling to.

By the beautiful words
We spoke to each other,
I wait on.

Though I know
Your past had me already,
I still walk towards your fading shadow.

Though your heart
Butchered my love,
I still yearn for it more.

Though your thoughts
Have me no more in them.
In mine, you are still fixed.

I know your day
And mine may never meet again
But I hope our nights will.

I know I am no more
The one your heart desires but
I hope you wouldn’t erase my existence.

It is true that I’m still hurting
And that words can’t express my anguish.
Yet, your eyes would never read this.

THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES

The journey of a thousand miles

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Everybody believes that Rome wasn’t built in a day, I know you believe that too. But we all forget to remember that a part of it was built in one day. I have come to full understanding the journey which lies before an Entrepreneur, that is; one who wants to make it at all cost and all I can say is “it’s worth it”

The journey to being an entrepreneur is not an easy one as most idle people see it as something cheap. But with persistence and consistency sets the journey on an easy foot. The truth is, people, see a great man today as a mere piece of luck. They forget that frustration, insult, depression, hunger, heartbreak are ingredients to becoming one. Of course, I also believe luck is attached to success but that is about 3% of the whole time.

Hard work itself is the main ingredient to being a successful person. People wouldn’t see the midnight candles burnt on writing a business proposal, the sleepless night, fragile heart nor lonely mind. I come to terms with myself that there are times when an entrepreneur won’t even eat nor drink just to see its business bloom. It’s so easy for people to judge something good as mere easy and a piece of luck.

My verdict- Entrepreneurs are the future of tomorrow. They strive so hard to create a good environment to accommodate the large mass. They search inwardly the things people want rather than what they need and then create a business around it. They give up from the noise of this world just to connect you with the real world. Do you believe your government can single-handedly create an enabling environment for you?

Stop being a setback to entrepreneurs, their job isn’t easy. But if you think it is, then try to pursue and nurture a career from scratch. I give you just eight months. Respect those who work hard to make this world a better place.

YOU ARE ENOUGH

You are Enough

You are enough right now.
Gifts, skills, and talents are special things.
The more we use it, the more they develop.

Stop hiding under the canopy
Of not having enough or not being enough
Or not knowing enough to do something.

There is something you know
That others do not know but need to know.
Come out and speak up.

There is something you can do
That will benefit a multitude.
Come out and do it.

There is something you have
That somebody out there needs!
Come out and give it.

Yes, you need to grow and you need to develop,
Yes you need to know more and have more,
But how can you have more,
How can you know more,
If you do not spread out?

How can you develop your skill and knowledge
If you do not work them out?

There’s an old, proverbial saying,
“Whatever you want, give it first.”

No matter how bad you want something,
Somebody is badly in need of one thing-
You have in abundance.

As we go through today, bring that thing out!
Have it in mind;
“Right now, I am just enough for somebody!”

DIFFERENCE IN YOU

Difference in you

There’s enough mediocrity
Existing on earth already!
The same mundane people
Doing the same regular, ordinary and average things.

There are a lot of people
Selling clothes and shoes!
So many other people in the marketplace
Doing the same going out and coming forth!

You would be a waste
If you just go and join the queue of people
Searching for success.
Do your thing with a difference!

Sell your business with dignity,
Integrity, trustworthiness, and excellence.
Sing to inspire!
Write to make alive!

Cook with cleanliness
And a touch of wonder!
Relate with your own special kind of love!
Operate by a different set of rules!

There is nothing you are doing
Or will do that one has not done before!
What will differentiate you
Is the difference you introduce!

Be the difference the world needs in whatever you do!

DEADLINE

Deadline

Take these words
And shove them
Down your gut.

This very bit
Of trash will
One day overflow.

For you repay kindness
With hurt and love
With severe hostility.

Pleasures from peace
Was his mandate
Towards your soul.

His hands were
Always full of
Grace and generosity.

But all you saw
Were flaws within
Your hideous cracks.

Potion of trash
Filled with all
Aberrations to humanity.

Your life, your rules.
His life, his choices.
“This is the deadline”, he said.

MAYBE WE DON’T KNOW

Maybe we don't know

Loving someone who does not love you in return is the greatest tragedy of all times. The reason why I can say this is because you do not know the next decision of that person. Whether the person is trying to open up to you or conceal things from you; that you do not know. Just because we need to be loved, we do stupid things that aren’t worth the stress and later end up with the what-the-heck syndrome.

Besides not having a dream; I mean having nothing to pursue, love imbalance is nothing but catastrophic to hear. We get caught by heart trying to play wise not knowing logic should come from the head in perception that there are some decisions that mustn’t be judged by heart but by the brain.

The heart is so tuned to the pleasure of life that it often leads one to bad decision making. Thus, it makes one tired of going left when nothing is right and also stresses one of doing right when nothing is left. So the question is ‘why not give your brain a trial to lead you through?’

It’s true that you do not know the value of what you have until it’s gone but the reality is; you knew what you had, you only thought it couldn’t slip from your hand. What a pity!!! We live in a world where we constantly need to check and balance. Checking our lifestyle and balancing it with the love life we intend to have or made available to us by life.

With certainty, we all should keep an open eye to the heart that craves for us because only then can we find the missing piece we never had but hoped for.

MY WIFE IS A STRIPPER

My wife is a stripper

Declaimer: This is purely a work of fiction. Names, character, businesses, places or incidents are just the product of author’s imagination.

Wait! I can’t start by making the camera roll like this. Where do I start my story? If I tell you my wife cheated on me or she did some dirty work in the strip club, will you ever believe me? I am a writer as you all know, writing doesn’t pay bills and beards neither. I have gotten the whole world ahead of me with a thorny path to thread for survival. Years are counting on my head and I have gotten nothing to show for it from the job I get busy with – yeah, writing don’t pay bills, not in Nigeria.

I never dare compare my life with that of anyone. My friends in business are making it and they are making me look like a loser in the end. I struggled with my wife whose penny assisted the family – thank God we have no kids yet.

Lagos is a land of opportunities; for business minded individuals. We had a plan to relocate from our penury and you know what? I got to save, but how do we make the money? That means I had to steal which is not a good option or I get myself involved in extrajudicial activities to raise a million at least. My wife is the greatest asset I ever had or I will ever have and I was never ready to get her involved in my dirty thought. We might not have the money but I still love her.

She was so understanding and faithful to me and she is just a replica of Eve in the Garden of Eden until the moment she got dumped me in the ditch. We were in the room tending to our wounds in silence, my mind kept hitting on stealing but where do I start? If I will ever make good money, I will need a gun with my soul sold to the devil and I never knew what she was thinking until the moment she decided to break the silence and our words accidentally striking each other and silence eloped us once again.

I was expecting her to tell me whatever thought she harbored in her mind before telling her mine. But her stare said the words instead, and I heard her say

“I think I have to get myself involved in stripping job for us to raise the money”

Did I just hear her right? Oh yeah! My own thought was more harmful compared to hers but she knew there was no way I will have to consent to that. It’s like selling off her dignity to save us the shame but I’m not a saint either – I was thinking of selling off my own soul to raise some money.

“Where is this idea coming from?” I sat up.

“Baby, you know I love you and I will do everything to make sure you get the best. I just think by doing this, I’m saving us and we can make a lot of money if you will allow me” she insisted.

I had to shut her up with a snare. She was sounding disgusting and I couldn’t take it.

She moved closer to me and pestered a kiss on my cheek
“We have gotten no choice here. You know we have to make money”
“And not with you selling your dignity,” I thought.

It hurt to keep listening to her. I just think it’s better I make her listen to my own idea.

“I have gotten an idea anyway and it’s quite complicated, you know” I closed my eyes and summoned the courage to reveal the stinking dirt on my mind with the hope of her consenting to it.

“I think I have to learn to take what is not ours”

At first, she was void of emotion. Her eyes narrowed. I bet she hadn’t gotten the whole idea, fully.

“You mean, you have to steal?” I felt the disgust laced in her words
I simply nodded my head with a “Yeah”

She threw me her sharp gaze and threw herself off my body. I had to swallow the humiliation this time. She drew closer and took me in her embrace, plastering my forehead with her loving kisses. I could feel her love, care and her teardrop rolling down my head capturing the warmth of her heart.

“I wouldn’t have you steal, baby. We can do the little we can to have this money without you stealing” she said before wiping off her tears and I felt once again, guilty.

She rolled me over.
“You know what? Don’t you think stripping seem legal compared to your stealing of a thing where you can get yourself killed?” she sounded concerned. She got a point there and I was pinned.

I simply gave her my innocent gaze

“It’s not as if I will perform such an act behind your back, not at all. It’s a kind of dance where we can make a lot of money enough to sort our bills and save for our plans”

I was quiet, not satisfied.

“I know it hurts. But we have to consider this option if we ever have to stay alive and not die, buried and forgotten in a hurry” I knew she was pestering for my consent with her honey laced words and you know what? She got me. She was right in every way. But there is no way I was going to give her my consent without my rules.

“Okay. I think we just need to give this a trial” I paused and read the expression on her face “but I’m giving you my rules”

“Rules? What rules?” she asked with all seriousness.

“You know what?” she shot me her serious gaze. I was scared she will strangle me to death because of my laid down rules.

We both laughed like kids and were happy afterward. She had a big heart and was quite understanding. I couldn’t let go of the bitterness I felt in my heart to make her take this hard decision because of us – no, because of me.

She has my consent now and my rules to follow. We were happy together, not until she broke one of the rules and I was dumped.
